A former Danish soccer star will be starting the New Year in court with a defensive play against luxury fashion producers Gucci of Italy and Hermès of France on claims of copycat production of their bags, according to Børsen.

Harald Nielsen, who was dubbed Golden Harald, made his soccer name as a centre forward in the 1960s – playing for the Danish national team, Bologna, Inter, Napoli and Sampdoria. He is also credited with having been a primus motor in the introduction of professional soccer in Denmark in the late 1970s.Harald  Nielsen and his wife produce bags that Gucci and Hermès claim are too close to their own designs.

Gucci and Hermès are claiming that bags that Nielsen and his former actress wife Rudi Nielsen have produced in Italy and imported to the Nordic region are too close to their own products. Earlier this year, Gucci won an injunction against a bag that the Italian company said was too close in design to Gucci’s own.

“The cases are accusations that our products resemble Gucci and Hermès too much. They have raised cases against a lot of others, and now they have go to us,” Harald Nielsen says.
