Some 68 percent of the electorate do not believe that Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen can win the next election according to a Green poll for Børsen.

Even within the coalition, most Conservatives and Danish People’s Party members doubt the prime minister’s ability, and within the Liberal Party itself 41 percent express doubts. Forty-seven percent of Liberals say he will be able to win the next election.

Liberals believe that several issues have given the government problems, among others issues private hospitals, pre-school meals and internal coalition disagreements on issues such as burkas and reforms.

“When the government parties do not say the same thing, it helps to show a picture of a split in the leadership and that never helps. So it’s very important that it is clear to the two parties that when they don’t say the same thing it affects them both,” says Region Southern Denmark Chairman Carl Holst (Lib) adding a warning to the junior coalition Conservatives.

“As Conservative government partner it is wrong to assume that you can talk as a Conservative one day and part of the government the next day. And as a Liberal partner, it’s no good that you say one thing today and another tomorrow. There is only one way forward to the next election. Solidarity and coherence in the way you communicate and run politics,” he adds.
