A political majority wants a probe into the extent of religious considerations being taken across the country, according to Jyllands-Posten.

“It is important that we don’t just blindly relax our basic principles such as freedom and equality,” says Parliamentary Integration Committee Chairwoman Karen Jespersen (Lib) who has proposed the move.

Jespersen is suggesting that the government sets down terms of reference enabling either civil servants or a government committee to canvas the issue.

Liberal Integration Spokesman Karsten Lauritzen supports the proposal while Conservative Integration Spokesman Naser Khader, while supporting the idea, says some considerations are acceptable.

“I have no problems with, for example, the fact that some people want to bathe alone. There are also obese people who would like to do that. But we should reject special considerations when they, for example, affect equality,” Khader says.

The Danish People’s Party supports the idea.

“It is politically correct to call this special religious considerations. In fact it is an Islamification of Denmark we are talking about. There are no other religions that require special considerations to any important degree,” says the Danish People’s Party’s Peter Skaarup says.

The Social Democrats do not see what a mapping of special considerations could accomplish, while the Social Liberals are against the idea.
