Plans for private universities in Denmark have been dropped for the time being according to a note from the new Science Minister Charlotte Sahl-Madsen (Cons) to the Red-Green Alliance Political Spokeswoman Johanne Schmidt-Nielsen.

“At the moment I do not intend to continue working with the issue of private universities,” the minister writes.

Sahl-Madsen’s decision stops a project initiated by her predecessor, according to Information.

Sahl-Madsen says she will be putting priority on other issues.

“I think there are other things that are more important than private universities in Denmark – so that is not at the top of my wish list,” Sahl-Madsen says.

Her predecessor Helge Sander had wanted to introduce private universities in order to strengthen cooperation between educational establishments and businesses, but Sahl-Madsen says this is not necessary.

“We are able to strengthen this cooperation within the framework that we have at universities today. The universities have already started,” she says.
