The 28-year-old man who escaped from the psychiatric hospital in Aalborg had 4,000 kroner and a 30-40 cm knife on him when police eventually found him as well as wearing other clothes than he escaped in.

His escape prompted a nationwide manhunt.

The man, who had been described by police as dangerous, was detained at a newsagent in Aalborg after just over 24 hours. He had been taken to the psychiatric hospital in Aalborg for tests, but managed to escape through an open window.

The man has been charged with the murder of Birthe Christiansen, a 56-year-old councillor and case worker, who was stabbed in a parking lot outside her office on January 27th.
