The Young Liberals (VU) say the newly-appointed Minister for Science Charlotte Sahl-Madsen (Cons) should be removed unless she changes her mind about shelving government work on developing private universities.

VU says that in shelving the plans, Sahl-Madsen has shown a lack of judgment and understanding of non-socialist politics and is preventing Danish students from being able to become candidates for the global academic elite.

“Even the new minister must have noticed that the world’s best universities are private and not public. It’s strange that the minister wants to cheat Danish students out of improved education,” says VU Chairman Jacob Engel Schmidt.

He adds that the new Minister for Science is not up to the job and is carrying out Social Democratic politics.

“We urge Lars Løkke to act quickly and make it clear to the minister that if she doesn’t change her views, she should look for another job,” Schmidt says.
