Danish SAS cabin personnel have agreed to take a clear drop in wages in connection with the new collective agreement reached overnight.

The eight percent drop in wages represents savings of DKK 77 million for SAS, which has been trying to cut costs as part of its survival strategy.

In return, cabin personnel will be able to choose to go on part-time, according to the agreement which was presented to personnel at a general meeting today. The agreement also includes stipulations that Danish agreements are to be followed in Denmark – a safeguard against social dumping.

The agreement with cabin personnel means that SAS now has final agreement with all unions in the organisation. The company says that savings amount to some DKK 380 million each year.

Overall, SAS has reached agreements with unions to the tune of SEK 2.1 billion in 2009 and 2010. The airline says total annual savings in its Core SAS strategy amount to SEK 7.8 billion.
