The latest figures from Statistics Denmark show increasing consumer confidence in Denmark. Although still in negative territory, indicators for consumer confidence have risen from minus 13.5 in December to minus 9.1 in January - the highest confidence rate since June 2008.
A Reuters survey of analysts had otherwise shown that experts believed consumer confidence would remain at minus 13.5.
Behind the surprise figures is a consumer belief that larger consumer items such as televisions and washing machines will fall in price in January compared to December.
Statistics Denmark has also asked consumers for their views on the Danish economy, with responses showing an increasing number who believe that Denmark's economic siuation will be better in a year's time than today.
