The unemployment queue got shorter in August.
According to Statistics Denmark’s latest figures, the overall number of unemployed dropped by 5.100 in August to 165,800 or 6.1 percent. Overall unemployment counts both those registered as unemployed, and those who are in job schemes.
It is the first time that Statistics Denmark includes those on job schemes in the unemployment statistics, and not just those who are registered as unemployed.
The figure is thus somewhat higher than the figures for July, which showed 113,000 unemployed. This figure, however, did not include those on job schemes.
Statistics Denmark says that the drop in August’s overall figure is due to the fact that 3,700 fewer people on unemployment benefits were admitted to job schemes in August, and that 1,900 fewer people were on cash benefits.
