92.000 dots - one for every civilian killed in Syria

As a peace process might be under way, it's too late for too many.

News in English

Nobody really knows the exact number of how many civilians have lost their lives during the Syrian civil war. Some NGOs suggest more than 300.000 have been killed while the UN simply stopped publishing a death toll due to lack of certainty.

The 92.000 used in this visualisation are based on data from Violations Documentation Center ( VDC), which register the name, age, gender and location of the death. Though it isn't the perfect number, we know that every single dot represents the death of a known civilian.
