The Danish Car Designer Henrik Fisker and his Wife Were Called a "Billionaire Power Couple."
Now, Former Employees Speak Out About Brutal Management and Fear
Fisker Inc. was a billion-dollar business and was ready to take on Tesla.
But the company has been destroyed by brutal management and has released cars with safety issues, according to criticism from former executives and employees.
Fisker Inc. denies the allegations.
The Fisker Ocean looked like everything the world had been waiting for.
When the car was first presented in 2020, it was described as having an unprecedented long range of over 700 kilometers (440 miles), lightning-fast acceleration, and room enough for the whole family. In addition, it was to have unique features such as solar panels on the roof and a so-called ’California’ mode, allowing you to roll down all the windows – including the rear window – and turn the car into a convertible-like vehicle on warm summer days. And most importantly, the price was competitive with a base model costing $37,499.
It seemed to be a revolution in the car market. And even though the term »Tesla killer« was already a cliché by then, the Fisker Ocean looked like a car that could challenge the world’s largest electric car company.
Behind Fisker Inc. stood the Danish car designer and entrepreneur Henrik Fisker, who grew up in Allerød north of Copenhagen but has spent his adult life outside the country’s borders, where he has helped design several successful cars for BMW and Aston Martin.
These were impressive luxury cars, some of which were used in a James Bond movie, but the cars on Henrik Fisker’s resume were only for the wealthiest car buyers. With the Fisker Ocean, he was set up for a popular breakthrough – and for a long time, it seemed that it was going to happen.
Around 63,000 people paid a deposit of $250 for the car. And in Denmark, the enthusiasm was particularly great. The first Fisker Ocean in the world was delivered in this country, and nearly 1 in 16 Ocean cars has been sold to a Dane. But when the first expectant customers received their new cars in 2023, a number of features that had been promised were missing. Fisker said that they would come later with software updates, but today several features are still missing.
Several of the car reviewers who were allowed to test drive the Fisker Ocean gave it a rough ride. FDM called it a »designer car in deep water«, and at Wired they stated that the car »is just not ready yet«. A reviewer even called it »the worst car I have ever reviewed« in a video that went viral on YouTube.
