Election night was filled with celebration and cheers, long queues, and great disappointment. See the dramatic municipal election campaign told in pictures.

We begin in the Social Democrats’ camp, where Pernille Rosenkrantz-Theil’s supporters look a bit tense. In the picture, they hold banners with Rosenkrantz-Theil’s name while their gazes look up at the stage.

They look up at the mayoral candidate. She stands on stage at the Workers Museum in Copenhagen. »It has been a tough campaign«, she says. »People are moving towards the extremes – it creates unrest, hatred, and division«.

Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (S) was also present at the Workers Museum in Copenhagen. However, she was not satisfied: »We expected a setback, but it looks like the decline is greater than we had anticipated«.

Despite the support, the party at the Workers Museum ended before the election result for Copenhagen was clear.
