Mårup Church, a 13th century place of worship perched perilously on eroding cliffs in western Jutland, is to be taken down on Monday in order to eventually be moved further inland. The picturesque chapel, which has been de-consecrated, is to be stored elsewhere until a new location has been found.
The decision by Environment Minister Troels Lund Poulsen to begin dismantling the church on Monday harvested criticism from the Association of Friends of Mårup Church because interested parties would be unable to hold a farewell ceremony at the historic site.
