The date has not yet been decided, but as of next year, public buildings will be raising the national flag Dannebrog in honour of Danish military personnel who have been serving abroad. The proposal for a new Flag Day was put forward by Senior Private First Class Kim Thygesen who has served in Afghanistan. His proposal was inspired by traditions in Britain and America, where one day each year is given over to honouring military veterans and personnel who have served abroad.
