A man on remand in Greenland spent 74 days in a remand cell in Sisimiut with only a mattress on the floor, permanent CCTV monitoring, his cell light on 24 hours per day and was only allowed outside for a third of his time.

The man’s detention conditions, which were discovered by the Danish Parliamentary Ombudsman during an inspection of prisons and detention centres in Greenland, were described as ‘extremely’ objectionable.
