Although the economic and political drawbacks of Denmark’s opt-out to the euro have become clearer than ever during the current financial crisis, Danes should not expect a snap referendum on the euro opt-out, according to Foreign Minister Per Stig Møller (Cons.).
“The Lisbon Treaty must be in place first,” says Stig Møller. After its referendum rejection of the treaty, the Irish government is not expected to call a new referendum before the end of 2009.
