The Philippines government ban on young women travelling abroad to become au pairs has in no way stopped Filipinas coming to Denmark. Instead, the young women leave their country as illegal emigrants.
According to the Danish Immigration Service, 1,375 Filipino women were given residence permits by the end of August this year. In the first eight months of the year almost as many Filipina au pairs came to Denmark as in all of 2007.
