Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen has moved the issue of a euro referendum further up the political agenda and is to sound out parties as to whether the time is ripe for a plebiscite.
"Recent (Ed: developments) have strengthened the need to give the population the opportunity to decide on the euro. When and how this should take place is something we will be discussing, but my clear view is that a plebiscite requires broad consensus in Parliament," says Anders Fogh Rasmussen.
