A new Self-rule Act, that in principle paves the way for full independence for Greenland, may end up tying Greenland closer to Denmark as Greenland will have to pay the full cost of tasks that the Home Rule Authority takes over from Denmark. Currently, Greenland receives contributions from Denmark towards the cost of operating the areas that the Authority administers.

Authority will hesitate According to Professor Christen Sørensen, who is a leading expert on the Greenland economy, the new Self-rule Act may delay the takeover of new areas by the Greenland authorities.
