According to Statistics Denmark, the country has had an influx of 26,312 people in the third quarter of 2008. Although immigration is always highest in the third quarter due to the start of term time at educational establishments, the number is the highest since statistics were first produced in 1980.
Danish nationals accounted for 8,161 of those who immigrated, 12,916 came from other Western countries and 5,235 were from non-Western countries.
