Five Somali pirates remain on board the Danish support vessel Absalon, despite a decision by the Netherlands to try them for attempting to hijack a Netherlands Antilles-flagged vessel on December 31.
Danish and Netherlands legal authorities have still not determined the legal basis for transferring the pirates to the Netherlands, or indeed how the handover should take place in practice. As a result, Denmark has not yet received a request for extradition.
