Environment Minister Troels Lund Poulsen wants Germany to put a refundable deposit on beer and soft drink cans bought by Danes in border regions, with refunds payable in Denmark.
The proposal, contained in a letter to the German government, is designed to solve a Danish problem in which some 400 million German beer and soft drink cans end up either in nature or in garbage cans, according to Jyllands-Posten. All cans bought in Denmark carry a refundable deposit in order to make sure that they are returned for recycling.
