An 18th century naval operations letter from Vice-Admiral Peter Wessel Tordenskjold was to have been sold at auction today, but the Keeper of Public Records has laid claim to the letter, stopping its auction.
The letter was written in June 1719 on board Tordenskjold's vessel Laaland and has been in private hands since about 1867. Most of Norwegian-Danish Tordenskjold's letters are in state archives.
