A handful of Danish and foreign banks would not even buy the bank for one krone. Why not ? Because a few very special customers had borrowed much too much money from the bank, according to Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten.
As an example, Kenneth Schwartz Thomsen who has been charged with tax fraud, owes Roskilde Bank one billion kroner while the well-known building contractor Kaj Wilhelmsen borrowed 800 million. Both of them, among others, would have been rejected by most other Danish banks since they have previously given the sector major losses.
