Cartoonist criticises U.S. publisher

The publication by Random House of a book about the Prophet Mohammed’s young wife A’isha has been dropped for fear of militant reaction. Denmark’s cartoonist Kurt Westergaard, who drew one of the cartoons which sparked violent reactions against Denmark from some Muslims, says the decision is a slippery slope.

“Unfortunately this is one of the very big publishing houses that has bowed out – and that is not good. If they don’t dare, then there are probably many others who don’t dare either. The big publishing houses should be at the forefront,” says Westergaard.
