In June 2008, two senior Danish referees were offered some DKK 224,000 each to help Romania in a World Championship qualifier against Montenegro.

Referees Martin Gjeding and Mads Hansen declined, and reported the attempt to bribe them to the Danish and European handball federations, but neither federation has reacted.
