No-one has been sent to prison for not paying police fines since the Tax Authority took over collection in 2006, according to information provided by the Authority and the Prison Service.

At issue are fines for crimes such as violence, graffiti, vandalism, drunken driving and disturbing the peace. In practice this means that alternative prison sentences are not used.
