The number of seasonally adjusted bankruptcies in Denmark in April was at 477, compared with 479 in March, but an 80 percent increase on April 2008, according to the latest figures from Statistics Denmark.

Statistics Denmark says that in 2008 the average monthly number of bankruptcies was 309, which was a record. The first four months of 2009 have given an average 471 bankruptcies in seasonally adjusted figures. The lowest number of average monthly bankruptcies recorded since the statistic began in 1979, was in that year, when 98 companies went down.
