9:47 [Comment From Ninna Mouritzen] I am currently doing an MA dissertation on why so many people do not vote for the European Parliament election despite its growing importance. My question is whether you fear the EP elections are going to become third-order elections with such a low turnout rate that they cannot be taken seriously? 9:51 HansGertPöttering: Unfortunately, many people are not aware of the great importance of the European Parliament. It is a task for the politicians and the media to provide more extensive information to all citizens about the great power of the European Parliament. Although I would like to see a better turnout in the elections, the right not to vote is part of our democracy, although I regret any vote that goes uncast. After the elections, all members of the European Parliament will have their legitimacy.
9:52 [Comment From Kasper Boutrup ] In your opinion, is there a democratic deficit in the European Union?
