New figures from the Danish Defence Command suggest that an overspend of some DKK 1.2 billion comes from rocketing costs for items such as service travel and consultants rather than the materiel that Defence Minister Søren Gade has blamed.
The new figures, contained in a confidential Defence Command memorandum to the parties concerned and compared with materiel spending figures obtained by Politiken, show that DKK 1.6 billion less was spent on materiel than politicians had agreed on, among other things a budget overspend on consultancy alone of some DKK 350 million.
