In the years following a 1968 government ban on registering citizens solely on the grounds of their legal political activities, PET continued to keep working files on Danes whom PET employees suspected of subversive activities, according to Jyllands-Posten.
The files grew so large and later merged to such a comprehensive and systematic archive that the system is expected to be criticised by the PET Commission.
