The Danish economy is in a worse state than the government expected in its previous forecast and may cause the European Union to call for deficits to be addressed, according to the latest forecast from the Finance Ministry and Finance Minister Claus Hjort Frederiksen (Lib).
The deficit for 2010 may run to DKK 90 billion. Overall, the government expects the deficit to be DKK 5 billion worse in both 2010 and 2011 than in its previous forecast. This would equal some five percent of GDP, well over the three percent that Denmark has bound itself to in the EU.
