The 28-year-old Somali charged with attempting to kill the Danish cartoonist Kurt Westergaard was being considered for a central post in the al-Qaeda affiliated al-Shabaab organisation when he was arrested in Kenya last July, a senior Kenyan intelligence source tells Politken.
The source, speaking on condition of anonymity, says the 28-year-old - who cannot be named for legal reasons – had a direct connection to the man thought to have been the al-Qaeda network leader in East Africa – Somalia-based Saleh Ali Saleh Nabhan.
