If you wonder why so many Danish homes have lighted candles in their windows tonight, the tradition marks the end of World War II occupation.
It was at 8.36 p.m. 65 years ago that Danes heard on the BBC that German troops in the Netherlands, Northwest Germany and Denmark had surrendered. Formal capitulation took effect from 8 a.m. on May 5th, 1945.
