The Metropol cinema on Copenhagen’s Town Hall Square, which has been providing a big screen for Copenhageners since 1938, is to finally close on June 6th because the confederation of Danish industries building in which it is located is to be refurbished.
“The problem is that when (…) it has to remain closed for two to three years, guests will get used to going to the cinema elsewhere, and it will take several years to rebuild Metropol’s customer base and become profitable again. We have determined that it is not possible,” says Nordisk Film Cinema Director John Tønnes.
