The situation in North and South Korea is so tense that a major outbreak of war cannot be excluded, according to Copenhagen University Head of the Nordic Institute for Asia Studies Geir Helgesen, who says the current situation is extremely serious.
“When Japan, the United States, North Korea and South Korea tell their troops to go on high alert, that is an escalation that means that a situation has become more dangerous. So I would say there is a real danger of war,” Helgesen says.
