Environment Minister Karen Ellemann is investigating the possibility of reintroducing the endangered European bison, or wisent, to the wooded area around Almindingen on Denmark’s Baltic island of Bornholm.

According to Berlingske Tidende, the minister would like to see the 900 kg animals – Europe’s largest and heaviest terrestrial animal – roaming freely around Almindingen and, if possible, on other parts of the island.
