The latest figures on public sector spending from Statistics Denmark show that the public sector spent DKK 4 billion more in 2009 than the Lib-Con government forecast just one month ago, and spending in the first quarter of this year seems to be pointing in the same direction, according to Børsen.
The unexpected rise in public expenditure has caused economists to raise the alarm, suggesting that the government’s plan to keep down spending on among others schools, the elderly and roads, will not do the trick.
