Bread: expensive and to cost more

Danish bread producers are laughing all the way to the bank as Danish consumers pay some of the highest prices for bread – prices that are likely to rise again and have caused Food Minister Henrik Høegh to take action.

Bread prices rose considerably in 2007-2008 as a result of increasing grain prices, but did not fall shortly afterwards when grain prices dropped, according to statistics from the Institute of Food Economy at Copenhagen University. Producers have now said that prices are due for a hike again.
