Serbia’s Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic acknowledged yesterday that Serbia’s Kosova initiative, which is due to be presented at the UN General Assembly next month, has few chances of success.
Serbia is proposing re-confirmation of the 1999 Resolution 1244, which made Kosova a U.N. Protectorate. This followed the eviction of Serbian forces from what was then a Serbian province, in a NATO bombing campaign. Resolution 1244 was a transitional solution, but Serbia continues to interpret it as confirmation of Serbian sovereignty over Kosova.
