The Swedish Railways investigation team is trying to determine whether an express train on the Stockholm to Copenhagen run was driving too fast when it hit an excavator yesterday evening. Eighteen people suffered injuries in the accident, which carved up the sides of several coaches.
Three of those with minor injuries were young Danish children from a basketball team who were returning home from a tournament on the X2000 train when it was involved in an accident near Norrköping. Two people – a Swedish woman and the excavator driver – are said to be in a serious condition, while the other passengers are said to only have minor abrasions.
