Foreign Minister Lene Espersen (Cons) is to ask Parliament to approve changes to the EU Treaty that would enable President Nicolas Sarkozy of France to appoint two extra members of the European Parliament, without them having been elected.

All EU member countries must approve the changes if they are to take effect.
