Franco-German proposal, Danish quandary

The recent agreement between Germany and France to seek amendments to the EU Treaty in order to be able to withdraw voting rights from bad deficit euro-countries would probably have to result in a Danish referendum.

“If you want to join the euro – and the government wants to do that – it would be best to have the country encompassed by the new rules. But if the treaty amendment that is being mooted is to include Denmark, then I believe it would have to result in a Danish referendum,” says Copenhagen University Centre for European Politics Prof. Marianne Wind.
