The recent agreement between Germany and France to seek amendments to the EU Treaty in order to be able to withdraw voting rights from bad deficit euro-countries would probably have to result in a Danish referendum.
“If you want to join the euro – and the government wants to do that – it would be best to have the country encompassed by the new rules. But if the treaty amendment that is being mooted is to include Denmark, then I believe it would have to result in a Danish referendum,” says Copenhagen University Centre for European Politics Prof. Marianne Wind.
