Pakistani authorities have appealed a decision by a court in Rawalpindi to free three men accused of conspiracy in the suicide bombing of the Danish embassy in Islamabad two years ago, according to Senior Prosecutor Muhammad Tayyab of the National Prosecutor’s Office.
The Rawalpindi lower court acquitted Qari Ilyas, Shamsul Haq and Rao Shaukat last month on the grounds that the prosecution had failed to provide enough evidence against the three men. Witnesses claimed to have seen Qari Ilyas and Shamsul Haq signalling to the suicide bomber, while Rao Shaukat was alleged to have planned the attack.
