Århus goes to Aarhus

A majority of councillors in Århus have voted to drop the city’s diacritic ‘Å’ and revert the official name of Denmark’s second city to its original spelling of Aarhus. The official change takes place on January 1, 2011.

The Social Democrats and Social Liberals voted in favour of the change, while the Conservatives, Liberals and Danish People’s Party voted against. The Red-Greens abstained.
