Jonathan Motzfeldt, one of the founding fathers of modern Greenland’s autonomy and a major figure in Greenland politics has died after a lengthy illness at the age of 72.
The son of a seal hunter, Motzfeldt was born in 1938 in Qassimiut in southern Greenland, was trained as a teacher in Greenland and took his theological degree at Copenhagen University in 1966.
