Denmark’s troops in Afghanistan are getting younger and younger. When Contingent 6 of Danish troops was sent to Afghanistan in late 2008, there were 191 soldiers between the ages of 19 and 22. When Contingent 9 was sent in February 2010, the number of 19-22 year-olds was 287, according to metroXpress.
Institute for Military Psychology Chief Psychologist Vibeke Schmidt says that a soldier’s age can be important when under pressure.
