Nuclear waste on Baltic coast

Germany is reported to be upgrading its intermediate nuclear waste depot at Lubmin on the Baltic following a decision earlier this month to shelve plans to send nuclear waste to Russia.

The German Parliamentary Finance Committee is to allocate billions of euro to operate the depot up to 2080. The facility contains predominantly low-level radioactive waste, but as recently as Dec. 15 this year, a goods train arrived from France with high-level waste.
