The first few days of 2011 have given hospitals in the capital region much more work than normal, with people with broken ankles, hips, legs and shoulders inundating wards as a result of unusually icy weather, according to Frederiksborg Amts Avis.
“We have never had so many on our waiting lists for operations as we did on Monday morning. It was unbelievable,” says Hillerød Surgical-Orthopaedic Dept. Chief Surgeon Jan Sørensen who says that three times as many as normal have been admitted after falling on icy pavements and bicycle paths.
