Last Friday, the European Court of Human Rights returned a clear and unmistakable verdict.

EU countries cannot send asylum seekers back to Greece without contravening Article 3 of the Human Rights Convention, which deals with torture and inhuman treatment. According to the EU’s internal rules within the Dublin II regulation, countries have the right to return asylum seekers to the EU country they first sought asylum in.
